Winning funding for the Barrow Hill Line re-opening to passengers
We had the absolutely fantastic news that for the first time in over 60 years, the Barrow Hill Line will reopen to passenger traffic. When I launched this campaign in 2020 there we no plans, no feasibility studies or work done to get the line reopened. We have come a long way in those three years. I look forward to continuing the hard work and pushing forward to get passenger stations open along the line!
Clay Cross station feasibility study won
We've been able to put together a detailed plan for a future railway station, thanks to the £25 million of Government funding from the Clay Cross Town Deal. Infrastructure projects take a long time, but this plan is a crucial first step. I’ll keep pushing the Clay Cross station with Government to get this project moving forward.
Championing CrossCounty rail links to Chesterfield
CrossCounty were a particular focus during the pandemic due to their near-complete withdrawal of services from Chesterfield. Thankfully, they have restored some services to Chesterfield, although I know that they are still not as frequent as people want. I will keep pushing CrossCounty to increase their services from Chesterfield as I know that this service connects our area to all different parts of the country and how important it is to us all in North East Derbyshire.
Rail user forum
As part of my role as MP up to the end of May, I committed to hold regular forums on local transport with key stakeholders across the region. We have recently committed our first Rail User Forum to give residents the chance to put their concerns about local services to rail operators in our region. I look forward to future meetings, should I be successful in being re-elected on 4th July.
