The Derby Road
When I was first elected in 2017 no work had been done at all on how to improve congestion on Derby Road, despite this being a top concern for residents. Since then we’ve done multiple studies - methodically putting in place the evidence base, consultation evidence and detail that will allow us - for the first time ever - to actually bid for some money to mitigate the congestion problem on thee Derby Road. I presented these options to residents in late 2023 with a view to a decision being made on the major intervention in 2024. I will be pushing hard to get the bid submitted to the Department for Transport, and to finally secure funding for this key project for North East Derbyshire.
Staveley bypass
We currently have a bid in with government to secure funding for the Staveley bypass. As with all of these major infrastructure projects, there is never any guarantee we will be successful – but we have to be in it to win it. And, back in 2020, we took a huge step forward when we won money to do this detailed design so it is good to see some of these proposals now going in. I’ll keep making the case for the Staveley bypass down in Westminster and, fingers crossed, we might be successful in the coming months ahead – I will keep trying!
Potholes
I know from holding my village meetings and driving all around North East Derbyshire just how vital dealing with potholes on our highways is to North East Derbyshire. I have been raising this constantly with Derbyshire County Council and I will continue to raise resident’s concerns with the Highways team and continue the work to make sure North East Derbyshire’s potholes get fixed.
