Lee Rowley MP welcomed the official opening of the Clay Cross Banking Hub on the 24th November 2023. The hub is located at the old Fultons Foods store on the Parade in Bridge Street and the official opening took place this morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Lee and others.
The Clay Cross Banking Hub has been delivered in partnership with Cash Access UK, an organisation focussed on ensuring banking services are at the heart of communities, Lee Rowley MP and Cllr Charlotte Cupit, Clay Cross North County Councillor. The opening of this banking hub marks the return of banking services to Clay cross for the first time in six years.
All the way back in January, Lee and Clay Cross Councillor, Charlotte Cupit, were successful in their months-long campaign to secure a banking hub for the town. Since this, Lee and Charlotte have worked closely with residents, planners and Cash Access UK in order to identify an appropriate location and progress the project. This has culminated in the Banking Hub opening today ahead of the originally planned time of early 2024.
The Clay Cross Banking Hub will offer a counter service, operated by the Post office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions. It will also offer a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own banking provider about more complicated issues, Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm. Community Bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank or building society available on each day of the week.
The hub will have 6 banks attending, instead of the original 5. These are as follows:
• NatWest will come on Monday
• Barclays on Tuesday
• Halifax on Wednesday
• Lloyds on Thursday
• Nationwide on Friday morning
• Santander on Friday afternoon
Commenting, Lee Rowley stated:
‘"It is absolutely fantastic to see the Clay Cross Banking Hub finally open its doors to residents in North East Derbyshire. Cllr Charlotte Cupit and I have been campaigning for a banking hub in Clay Cross for a long time and it is brilliant to see that campaign pay off with the Clay Cross Banking Hub formally opening and banking services finally returning to Clay Cross after six years!
‘Throughout the almost year-long process, residents have been at heart of all the decisions, such as the location. I am so pleased that we have been able to deliver this for residents in Clay cross and all across north East Derbyshire.
‘I would also like to thank Cash Access UK for their role in this process and helping to make the Clay Cross Banking Hub a reality. I know that the opening of this hub will be a boost to the whole town."
