Lee Rowley, Member of Parliament for North East Derbyshire, has welcomed the introduction of the Travel Derbyshire on Demand service. This is a new, flexible public transport service that differs from traditional bus services.
Instead of following a fixed route and schedule, these buses allow you to book your journeys for the specific time you wish to travel, making it a personalised and more efficient way to use public transport. Funded by Derbyshire's Bus Service Improvement Plan the service operates throughout the whole of Chesterfield, Bolsover, North East Derbyshire council areas as well as to and from Kings Mill Hospital and Alfreton Train Station, as long as you are departing from or arriving to the operating area.
Lee Rowley recently rode the Travel Derbyshire on Demand service along with Cllr Charlotte Cupit, Cabinet Member for highway Assets and Transport, and praised both the staff running the service and Derbyshire County Council for implementing the service on an initial trail basis.
Furthermore, Travel Derbyshire On Demand is free for elderly and disabled Gold Card holders when they travel from 9:30am to the end of service on weekdays and all day on Saturdays.
Commenting, Lee Rowley stated:
"It is absolutely brilliant news for everyone in North East Derbyshire that Travel Derbyshire on Demand is here! At a time when bus services have experienced a lot of problems with rider numbers post-Covid, this service helps to keep the bus link in places where they are vital for people to go to work, school, medical appointments and anything else someone needs."
"We worked hard to secure the funding needed for this service from government and put in place the Bus Improvement Plan at a County level, which included the implementation of an demand service, and I am really pleased that North East Derbyshire residents are now able to benefit from the service. I'd encourage all residents to give the service a go and see if it makes a difference to your journey."
