Lee has welcomed the news that Chesterfield has been awarded £20 million in funds to help regenerate it's town centre. The specific details on this fund will be announced in the coming months but, broadly, the £20 million is a ten-year ‘endowment style’ fund. It will now be down to Chesterfield Borough Council to put together a plan.
This is just the latest in a long line of examples where levelling up is really happening all across North Derbyshire:
- £25 million for Staveley regeneration through the Town Deal
- £25 million for Clay Cross regeneration through the Town Deal
- The new A&E at the Royal Hospital opened earlier this year
- The new Hartington unit at the Royal which is now under construction
- The successful winning of funds for the new school at The Avenue, Wingerworth
- The first tranche of £20 million for Chesterfield town centre awarded a year or so ago
- The new banking hub coming in Clay Cross in a few months’ time
- The continuing regeneration of Chesterfield Canal
- The revamped and upgraded Killamarsh Active
- The ground broken on a new Sharley Park in Clay Cross
...and now another £20 million for Chesterfield town centre today, too.
